The Battle Force Electronic Warfare Trainer (BEWT) AN/USQ-T47(V) is the training device for shipboard Electronic Warfare (EW) systems such as the AN/SLQ-32A(V) and the AN/ULQ-16. Through digital stimulation of these systems, BEWT provides extremely realistic EW training (visual and audio) for the operator at the same console used in actual tactical situations. As a stand alone system, BEWT scenarios can provide both individual skill training with very specific objectives as well as complete EW Team training encompassing all levels of crew readiness.
BEWT is a training support device being developed by Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), Combat Systems Training and Support, PEO IWS 1E. EWA Government Systems, Inc. leads the development team chosen by PEO IWS 1E to develop and build BEWT. EWA is teamed with Research and Development Solutions, Inc. (RDSI) and supported by NEW-BOLD Enterprises, Inc. and Azimuth, Inc.
Incorporation of fleet feedback established requirements that resulted in continued software development leading to the introduction of v2.0 in June 2000. Enhancements in the areas of performance feedback, report generation, maintenance and diagnostic capability, on-line technical documentation, interface functionality with existing training systems such as the ACTS, and training scenario capability (for both stand alone and integrated training) highlighted this development effort. BEWT v3.1 began shipping in July 2002 while introducing an improved Integrated Training user interface. Other improvements included AN/SLQ-32A(V) antenna fault simulations and a comprehensive diagnostic capability. While the BEWT development team incrementally improves BEWT, the BEWT hardware and installation team continue to provide quality systems to the Fleet. At the end of May 2003, over 175 BEWT deliveries have been successfully completed, with approximately 25 more ships scheduled to receive the system by the end of 2004.
Future enhancements in Electronic Attack (EA) training, the use of Semi-Automated Forces (SAF), management of EW databases, and interface functionality with developing EW tactical systems will be developed in conjunction with BFTT and result in further BEWT functionality.
